TLDR? Celebrate Halloween in Medellin with activities such as pumpkin carving at Casacol’s properties!
Skulls, cobwebs, sweets, and good costumes are what make Halloween one of the most anticipated festivities of the year. And, in Medellin, the holiday doesn’t go unnoticed, either!
Halloween in Medellín is fun for both children and adults and is a great time to celebrate one of the most emblematic parties worldwide! Besides, it’s when you get an excuse to be someone (or something) else for a night!
Keep reading, and let me show you how to celebrate Halloween paisa-style.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of how to celebrate Halloween in Medellin, let’s talk about the history of this holiday.
There is no concrete history of when this party began to be celebrated in the city. However, the festivities certainly haven’t always been part of Colombian culture. It wasn’t until the last thirty years that American ideas began seeping into Colombian culture and bringing this spooky holiday with them.
And of course, it’s not the only holiday to make its way to Medellin thanks to foreign influences! Oktoberfest is another holiday that’s recently taken off in the City of Eternal Spring!
Trick-or-treating in Colombia is known as triqui triqui. Still, just like in other cultures, in Medellín, kids go from door to door asking for candy.
What’s different about triqui triqui is that kids don’t ask for candy at houses. Instead, they swing by local businesses!
You’ll typically find that the most crowded places on Halloween are shopping malls, since that’s where kids find the most loot.
Now that you’ve got a bit of background on Halloween in Medellin, let’s get into the fun stuff. How in the world do you celebrate the holiday during your trip?
One fun way to celebrate Halloween is to get your costume game on. Luckily, there are plenty of costume shops around the city where you can pick up a great ‘fit.
Here are a couple of places to grab costumes and costume supplies.
Dollar City has a short, basic list of costumes. However, they’re great if you need something last minute. On top of that, the costumes here are cheap.
Among its items you can find there are are hats, dark glasses and aviator pennants, cat ears, feather scarves, and tutu skirts.
You can also find different Halloween decorations in case you want to get your Airbnb or hotel room in the Halloween spirit! Of course, don’t worry about that too much as Casacol has got you covered.
There are more than 10 stores in Medellín located around the city in independent stores or shopping centers. Any of them will have the supplies you need.

Regardless of whether you want to look cute, sexy, or scary, this store has everything to help you get dressed up for Halloween.
You can ask for their costumes and ornaments on their Instagram page or scroll through the store’s Whatsapp catalog.
Either way, Megaoutlet really is what its name says it is—a mega outlet for Halloween supplies.
Address: Cl. 80 #65 81, Medellín, Antioquia.
This costume store is located in Local 4180, in the Santafé shopping center.
While their shop is full of costumes for children, make no mistake; there’s still a wide variety of costumes for adults, divided into costumes for women and men.
You can find superheroes, sports, historical, emoticons, and witches costumes. You can buy the clothes online or can swing by the shop’s physical location.

Disfraces Deluna is a store that will deliver your costume right to your doorstep. This is a nice perk if you’re not looking to spend a ton of time shopping.
Here, in addition to different types of costumes, you can find masks as well. Or, you can pick up other accessories and supplies to throw together something a bit more homemade.

If you’re staying in Laureles, Para Toda Temporada isn’t too far away.
As the name implies, you can find costumes at any time of the year without needing it to be Halloween. So, if you plan to attend a themed party, here you have a great place to gran some scary supplies.
The store has costumes of all kinds available, such as superhero, cultural, and animal costumes, among others.
Address: Circular 77 # 38 – 78, Medellín, Laureles, Medellín, Antioquia.
It’s not Halloween if you don’t bust out the pumpkins! In Medellin, there are plenty of places to enjoy pumpkin-related activities.
Let’s check out some of the best places to celebrate everyone’s favorite Fall vegetable!
One of my favorite things to do at Halloween is carving pumpkins. And, while you’re welcome to pick up a pumpkin at your local Éxito, there’s a far better place to do all that.
Every year, Casacol’s properties host a pumpkin carving contest! The best part is, even if you’re a Medellin resident like me, you can still have fun and enjoy this activity.
A few of the places where you can try your hand at pumpkin carving include:
Regardless of where you go, get ready to get your game face on. The competition is no joke, and the winners of last year’s championship came up with some pretty mean designs!
Just like in the US, Starbucks puts out its Fall drinks for the spooky season. Of course, the menu changes each year, but a few Fall favorites you can always pick up include:
You can also customize the milk and toppings you add to your drink. It’ll transport you right back to the sweater-weather days of life in the US or Europe.

At Halloween, shops and grocery stores join in the fun and stock up on sweets and scary decorations.
In Medellín, pumpkins have become one of the most traditional elements in Halloween. So if you are looking for a pumpkin perfect for carving, here’s where to find them:
Regardless of where you go, you’ll have no problem picking up a pumpkin to decorate your home away from home.

Would you like to visit a real haunted house? Well, the one designed by La Granja La Paturra is quite close to Casacol’s properties, and the spaces they’ve created to celebrate Halloween are incredible.
Just don’t visit the place if you’re not prepared to see in the dark things like coffins, chains, tombstones, and other spooky gadgets.
The activity runs from mid-day until late at night. But, if you arrive in the morning, you can just take a tour of the farm. The farm tour is another fall-feeling activity, and one that might be a bit more appropriate for little ones.
