Where to Celebrate Halloween in Medellin

TLDR? You can celebrate Halloween in Medellin at Casacol’s properties, such as the Marquee and Celestino here in Poblado!

It’s time to carve your pumpkins, prepare your most terrifying costume and stuff yourself with candy! Despite what you might think, celebrating Halloween in Medellin isn’t as different as it’s in America.

Also called Witches Night or noche de brujas, October 31th is a special day in Colombia. And, like the US, it’s all about costumes and candy.

It’s also the perfect excuse to attend the parties that take place in the city. So, if you’re looking for fun places to celebrate spooky season this year, keep reading. Here are a couple of places to get in the mood this season!

The Marquee Hotel

The Marquee is a renowned hotel located in the El Poblado neighborhood. It’s just a fifteen-minute walk from the Poblado metro stop.

Every year, Marquee (along with Casacol’s other hotels and properties) puts on a pumpkin carving contest. There, you can grab a pumpkin and let your imagination fly!

You can stay to carve there or take your pumpkin home to decorate your kitchen. It’s like a souvenir of your Halloween celebration in Medellin that you can leave in your hotel room or Airbnb!

Once you arrive at the Marquee Hotel, ask for your pumpkin at the reception. You can also pick up a carving kit including all the small knives needed.

You can pick up your favorite pumpkin starting at 3pm at the hotel, and there are several different sizes for you to choose from. Who knows? Your pumpkin might be a winner!

El Tesoro Mall

El Tesoro Mall in Medellin Colombia

Trick-or-treating is probably what Halloween is most famous for. Clearly, the goal is to get as much candy as possible.

In Colombia, kids go from door to door asking for sweets, but they also go to malls and candy stores. El Tesoro Mall is one of the favored places for locals to take children to fill their plastic pumpkins.

On Halloween night, the corridors of the mall will be dotted with small monsters, superheroes, princesses, dancers, and adorable animals asking for sweets and singing typical songs like:

Quiero paz
Quiero amor
Quiero dulces
Por favor
I want peace
I want love
I want candy
Please

In addition to being able to snag some sweets, the mall offers activities for kids. There’s face paint and arts and crafts for the little ones to enjoy! Not to mention the adults can window shop while the kids are kept occupied.

In 2022, the mall celebrates October under the sea. The theme is “Misterio Profundo”, and features a ball pool where children have to look for a lantern fish to win the game. Besides this exotic blend of Halloween and sea animals, you can take your kids to craft nights on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Looking for a new way to celebrate Halloween? Then take a walk through the Medellin Planetarium at Parque Explora. In 2022 they’ll celebrate Halloween in style with a costume party! It’ll be a night of music, telescopes, and space stories.

But, what about the little ones? On October 29th, 2022, from 3 pm onward is the Halloween party for children from 5 to 12 years. This event is family-friendly, meaning it’s great for those who are traveling with little tykes.

At the event, children will be able to make their own dinosaurs in a workshop. Then, they’ll get to enjoy a show at the planetary dome, where they’ll learn how scientists study asteroids by researching those which have fallen to Earth.

There will be contests and prizes for the whole family, including:

  • Skeleton dance contest

It will definitely be a new experience for children, with inflatable castles and mariachi shows in the garden. Get your face painted and break the piñata before treating your kids to a lunch of nachos and hot dogs.

Just remember you’ve got to pay for your ticket ahead of time and register your kids. You can do all this on the museum website.
