And Medellin is no different! Games host Enigma has dominated the cities escape room sphere for the last six years.

Hosted in a range of spookily-themed rooms, these tricky brain games will challenge you mentally and emotionally.

So, if you’re up for the task, grab your detective trench coat and keep reading! I’m about to fill you in on the best escape rooms in Medellin.

Enigma Escape Rooms

Started by games enthusiast Benoit, Enigma has been operating in Medellin since 2016.

After falling in love with the city, the company’s French founder decided to introduce Medellin to the wonderful world of escape rooms!

Enigma operates the only game of its kind in the whole city! With three locations and eight themed rooms, they have something for everyone.

For 60 minutes, you must use all your wits to escape from the room. Here you will decipher codes, search for the clues, uncover all the mysteries, and ultimately free yourself from the room.

The rooms are located in Envigado, Laureles, and Poblado, and all host equally challenging and entertaining games.

And don’t worry! The games are in Spanish and English, so you won’t be able to blame losing, on the language.

Envigado Rooms

Situated south of the city, this Enigma location hosts the most rooms. They receive players every day from 12 pm to 10 pm. However, you’ll need to book beforehand.

The rooms are designed for 2 to 6 players but can accommodate up to 24 people at a time. Here’s a brief rundown of the games offered at this site.

Zombies

Set on the backdrop of a zombie-overrun Medellin, the aim is to find your way out of the city. The theme is well-executed, and there are many fun and scary moments.

Although the puzzles are challenging, out of all the games, this one is recommended for those new to escape rooms.

Laboratory

This room is the newest addition to the Envigado location and just as exciting as the others. The story takes place in a world ridden with a killer infectious disease. Sound familiar?

With a doomed human race, and scientists stuck for answers, you must rush to solve the mysteries and find a cure to save the world!

Dragons Fortress

With a dead dragon rider and a pending battle for the throne, the stakes are high. You must work with your team to strategize your escape.

Combining all the best elements of medieval fantasy dramas like Game of Thrones, this room is one of the more challenging games.

Theft from the Museum

A gang of uniquely skilled bandits plan to pull off the biggest art theft in history. You are a part of that team!

The challenge is incredibly detailed, and you really feel like you are a part of a movie.

How to get to Enigma Envigado

The building is pretty easy to find as it’s located in Envigado’s main town center. You can get there with a 20 to 30-minute Uber ride from central parts of Medellin.

The fair will cost around $3-4 USD if you go in the evening.

To travel by public transport you’ll need to take metro line A to the Envigado stop. Once exiting the station, it’s a 20-minute walk to the location.

You enter through a very inconspicuous brown door. However, you’ll spot the large black Enigma signage above this door. Ring the bell, and you’re in!

Address: Cl 38A Sur #43-53 piso 2, Zona 9, Envigado, Antioquia

Poblado Rooms

The Poblado rooms are the most accessible as they are open every day from 1 pm to 10 pm. However, they have a limited selection with just one game room.

Revolution

For this wartime mystery, you’ll travel back in time to the Colombian revolution of 1819. Led by General Simón Bolívar, you have to uncover the clues needed to liberate Colombia. No pressure!

How to Get to Enigma Poblado

Enigma’s most central location is just one block from Parque Poblado.

If you’re local, the building is a walkable distance. It is situated on calle 8, just off carrera 43.

If you’re coming from another part of the city, you can take a rideshare or the metro. But be warned, the metro journey involves a 15-minute uphill walk from Poblado station.

Address: Cl. 8 # 43A-89, El Poblado, Medellín, Antioquia

Laureles Rooms

Not only does this location host some gripping escape rooms, but it also has a tasty restaurant and bar for you to indulge in before your game.

You can reserve one of the 3 three games room from Tuesday to Friday. Games are designed for 2 to 6 players, but their double room can hold up to 48 participants!

In my opinion, this Enigma location has the most diverse themes.

Kidnapping

This game is slightly darker than the others. Set in a kidnap scenario, you will have to work with the other hostages to free yourself and escape from the room.

Galactic Battle

Amidst an intergalactic war, two powerful groups are battling for power. But this is where it gets interesting!

The room is split in half, so two teams can play one game. These groups must race each other to explode the thermonuclear heart, thus winning the game. Galactic Battle is perfect for large groups.

Journey to Childhood

This room will test your abilities to deal with the annoying and slightly evil son of your boss. A true nightmare. Break the mysteries and escape the room!

How to Get to Enigma Laureles

If you decide to take the metro, you can travel to either Estadio or Rosales station as this Enigma location is between the both. It’s a 20-minute walk from either station.

The building is pretty easy to find as it’s located near UPB University and on the main road of Avenida Nutibara.

Address: Tv. 39B # 4-30, Laureles – Estadio, Medellín, Antioquia

How Much is an Escape Room?

These intricately curated games last one hour. For the quality of the experience, the prices a very reasonable. However, the more players you have, the less you’ll pay:

  • 2 players – $45,000 pesos per person
  • 3 players – $40,000 pesos per person
  • 4-6 players – $35,000 pesos per person

How to Book a Session

You must make a reservation to play; if you just show up with a group of friends, you will be turned away. You can search for availability and make bookings really quickly through the Enigma website.

What are the Rules?

Once you have booked your session you’ll be given a run down of the rule. Make sure you listen carefully! This pre-game chat involves some practical rules, but it will also give you advice on maximizing your time and beating the clock. Here are some basic pointers:

  • You’re not really locked in. If you want to leave the room, just ask.
  • You’re not allowed to use your phone. You can place your belongings in a locker beforehand.
  • No running or jumping. I know it’s super realistic, but try not to get too carried away.
  • Brute force is not allowed. Use your mind to solve the puzzle, which means no forcing locked compartments or doors open.
  • Clues will be given throughout, but you need to ask for the hints.
  • Don’t mess with the props as you’ll have to pay for them if they’re broken.

What else can you do?

The Laureles space is quite large and has a lot going on. It not only hosts escape rooms, but it’s also a social hub for games, food, and good times!

Host a Special Event!

An escape room challenge is the ultimate team-building exercise. Enigma creates special games for groups of up to 200 people!

These fun spaces help encourage teamwork, build morale, and develop soft skills. Using themed settings, actors, and sophisticated props, Enigma has designed games for companies like Decathlon and Renault.

Play Some Board Games

The games space is perfect for those who like a good ol’ board game. So put away your candy crush for the evening and start rolling some dice!

From Monopoly to Snakes and Ladders and Chess, they pretty much have every board game you can think of, so you’ll never be stuck for choice. The staff are very helpful and thoroughly explain the games in either English or Spanish.

The Restaurant

You can tuck into some food and drinks while you play your game. The menu boasts all the fast food staples like hamburgers, hot dogs, and fries.

It’s not quite fine dining, but the dishes are executed to a high standard and fit the casual ambiance of the venue. They also have a bar that serves themed cocktails.
