Burgers, Wings, and Fries Oh My! The Best American Food in Medellin

TLDR? Barbacoa Burger & Beer is the best pg some American food in Medelin.

As much as I love trying new foods when I’m traveling around a new country, sometimes, all I want is to sit down and eat something from home.

I’m talking mac n’ cheese, a pot of chilli with cornbread, or some spicy wings.

Now, when the cravings come calling, there are a couple of places around town that you can check out.

However, to make sure you get a really great experience, I’ve gone ahead and put together a list of the top American restaurants in the city. Take a look and try some out for yourself!

Barbacoa Burger & Beer

Barbacoa Burger & Beer

Barbacoa B&B has many locations in different neighborhoods of Medellín, such as in malls like Santafe, Manila, and Envigado.

As you can probably guess, the meals here are mostly burgers

Still, they’re some good burgers. Barbacoa Burger & Beer participates in Medellin’s Burger Master competition, putting themselves on the map and getting a name for themselves with their meals.

I’ve tried their Burger Master burgers and let me tell you, the results don’t lie. These burgers are delicious.

You can also pair your burger with some tasty beer. They’ve got all the best of the city, such as Tres Cordilleros and 20Mission for you to pick from.

Western Wings

Western Wings

This restaurant, in the Manila corner of larger Poblado gets some pretty good reviews from customers, and I can see why.

While I wouldn’t say it’s the biggest spot in town or the place with the most varied menu, it’s still a pretty cool place to check out.

Western Wings doesn’t have anything on the menu aside from, well, wings. So, if you were hoping for burgers, this isn’t the place.

They do have sides of fries that you can order, and the seasoning on those are delicious. But, that’s about it in terms of other menu items.

In terms of what to order, the wild hot wings are insane, and the blue cheese side dish in the tasty combos of wings is a great complement.

It’s also worth noting that this is a good place to watch a sports game. They run live sports showing off just about any type of game you like, so it’s a nice place to grab a beer or swing by for the Super Bowl.

Philly Steaks & Bistro

Philly Steaks & Bistro

My family is from Philly so when I stumbled across this gem in the Manila neighborhood, you can bet your bottom dollar I went in.

I’m always a skeptic when I go into these types of places, but the reality is, these guys know what they’re doing.

They’ve got the classic Philadelphia cheesesteak with some delicious American-style cupcakes and ice cream to finish off with.

The owner is born and bred in Philly, too, so you can guarantee the meals here are authentic.

The decor is fun, too. There’s a big map of Center City (my Philly fans will know what I’m talking about) where you can point out all your favorite places from back home.

And, there are famous Philly football stars and other icons from around town. It’s definitely a fun place to check out if you want some classic American meals!

The food is excellent, too, and there are a couple fo twists on some of the classics. If you’re feeling like venturing off the beaten path with your cheesesteak, you absolutely can at this spot.

Hooters

Hooters

A classic American restaurant in El Poblado, Hooters is a place that you might want to check out if you’re missing some American meals.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. Hooters?!

As odd as it may seem to those of us coming from the states, Hooters here comes with none of the raunchy, unwanted reputation.

In fact, the only reputation it has here is for being a bit on the pricey side and serving pretty good greasy meals!

After hearing this review from a number of my friends, I decided it was time to check things out.

The truth is, my friends were right. Hooters in Medellin actually has some pretty good wings and a classic chocolate mousse (it’ll take you back to the pudding cups in grade school).

They’ve got a ton of other items on the menu too, with everything from seafood to tacos.

In terms of what to drink, the classic recommendation is an American beer. But, you can go ahead and order a soda pop or a cocktail if you’d prefer.

Sweet Georgia Café

Sweet Georgia Café

When I took my partner back to the US to visit my family for the first time, the first thing I made him do was order a plate of chicken and waffles at a local diner.

There’s nothing that screams classic southern food like a hot plate of waffles topped with crispy friend chicken and doused in maple syrup!

If you (like me) are a major fan of this comfort food then you’ll love Sweet Georgia Café

Inspired by all your favorite American meals, this small and cozy diner-style joint in the Laureles neighborhood has some of the best American breakfasts in town.

You’ll find huge plates (I mean, when is a paisa meal not huge) piled with bacon, pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, French toast, and tons of other American favorites.

Their meals are even complete with a cup of watery, American-style coffee (just kidding, but they do brew up some American coffee blends).

Or, if you’d rather go there during lunch time, you can enjoy burgers and sandwiches. Or, go for one of their vegan options. Whatever you get, the food will transport you back to the states in a heartbeat.

The Jungle Burguer

The Jungle Burguer

The Jungle Burger features rock music and delicious food in one place. If you’re wanting a place where you can jam out and enjoy a tasting American-style meal, this is definitely the place to go.

As you can guess from the name, the menu focuses on hamburgers. In fact, there are actually 26 different hamburgers on the menu, each of which is named after some reference from classic rock.

Jungle Burguer participates in the annual burger master competition. They’re worth checking out to get a feel for how good their beef patties really are.

What’s cool about this place is that they actually have their own rock band. In the past, they’ve done tours where they show off their music making magic.

Granted, that was all pre-covid, but who knows. It may make a comeback just like the rest of the city has done.
