History

History

In the 1960s, the mayor proposed creating an exhibition hall in Medellin.

In 1975 the first stage of this project was finally inaugurated, opening its doors to the textile and industrial sector. This gave rise to what’s now known as Colombiamoda and Colombiatex.

By the 1990s, Plaza Mayor’s exhibition area expanded as other phases of the project came together. The international convention center was finally complete in 2005.

Its architecture’s a city symbol, with the appearance of a wooden box that lights up, looking like an enormous lamp.
