TLDR? Sushi House is one of the best sushi restaurants in Laureles.
Medellin is a culinary powerhouse, and you’ll find some of the best food in Colombia here. From street food to five-star restaurants, there’s something for everyone in Medellin. And, don’t forget to try the city’s famous coffee!
One food that you don’t want to miss is the sushi.
Even though it’s a landlocked city, don’t underestimate the sushi. While there are sushi restaurants scattered across the city, in this article, we’re going to look at the top sushi restaurants in Laureles.
So, without further ado, let’s get started!
I love sushi, so to me, it doesn’t really matter where it comes from. Don’t get me wrong; I love a good sushi restaurant with fish caught in the morning. However, I’m also the guy that will buy sushi from a grocery store.
Some people are picky about their sushi and where it comes from. But, being from Montana where almost all of the fish for sushi rolls needs to be flown in, I’m just happy to have sushi at all.
As I’ve been traveling for the last year, I have had sushi in every country I’ve visited. This includes Mexico, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Peru, and now Colombia.
One thing I’ve noticed about sushi in every Latin American country is the inclusion of cream cheese in a majority of rolls. So, when I started searching sushi restaurants in Laureles, I was wondering if this was the case.
While this was the case at most of the restaurants I looked at, several rolls didn’t have any cream cheese. So, if you’re a sushi purist and don’t like the idea of cream cheese in your rolls, then you’ll still be able to find some options in Laureles.
In Medellin, Laureles is an up-and-coming neighborhood that has several good sushi restaurants. When I was looking for places to eat in Laureles, I found a lot of good options.
However, after trying a few of them, I’ve narrowed it down to my top three favorites. These are the best sushi restaurants in Laureles, in my opinion.
Sushi House doesn’t blow you away with its ambiance or decor. It’s a fairly small restaurant with limited seating.
However, what it lacks in atmosphere, it more than makes up for in its food. The sushi rolls are medium-large and reasonably priced.
The fish was fresh and in generous portions. I really liked their spicy tuna roll. It had a good amount of heat without being too overwhelming.
If you’re a fan of dipping your rolls in eel sauce, then Sushi House brings you a water bottle size container of it (I’m not joking!). So, you won’t have to worry about running out.
Sushi House keeps it pretty simple with their rolls. You won’t find many that have several toppings or house salsas.
However, what they lack in variety, they make up for in taste. I would say Sushi House rolls are more on the traditional side, without too many bells and whistles.
If you are looking for a deal, go on Monday or Wednesday. On Monday, it’s two rolls for the price of one. On Wednesday, they offer three rolls for the price of two for qualifying rolls.

My second stop was Sushi Market. Sushi Market has 9 locations in Medellin, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding one near you.
The one in the Laureles neighborhood is actually next door to one of the best burger joints in the Medellin, Chef Burger. So, the restaurant is surrounded by vegetation giving it privacy from the busy street.
When looking at the menu, I first noticed their wide range of specialization rolls. Sushi house was more limited in its selection, so it was nice to see some different options.
Like Sushi House, you can pick between 6 or 12 rolls for your meal. The rolls at Sushi Market were slightly smaller but had more ingredients.
For example, the Tiger’s Eye rolls had salmon, tuna, masago, Japanese mayonnaise, and sriracha topped with sesame mix. This was a delicious roll and a nice change from the traditional sushi roll.
In addition, to their wide selection of sushi rolls, Sushi Market also offers several Asian appetizers. I highly recommend trying one of their BAO buns.
These are soft, steamed buns filled with chicken, pork, or shrimp and topped with vegetables. My taste buds were dancing after taking my first bite.
Sushi Market also specializes in sangrias that are filled with mixed fruit. The sangria definitely added to the experience and is a must-try.
If you aren’t a sangria fan, then they have an excellent artisanal beer called Osaka. It’s filling but still light enough that it won’t interfere with your meal.

My most underrated find during my time in Laureles was Sakae Sushi. I actually found out about this place from walking by.
They don’t have hundreds of reviews like Sushi House or Sushi Market. However, the reviews they do have are almost perfect.
Sakae Sushi is located in the heart of several other restaurants on a busy street. It can be easy to walk by and not notice it.
In addition, it’s quite close to direct competition with Sushi World and Sushi Light practically next door. While I have heard and read great things about these restaurants, they are hard to get into around dinner time.
So, if you are looking for a delicious meal without the hassle, then Sakae Sushi is your place. To my surprise, Sakae Sushi’s menu had a Peruvian influence.
You will find some of the most traditional Peruvian dishes, such as Lomo Saltado, Causa, Chaufa, and Ceviche. In addition, their rolls had a Peruvian twist on them with ingredients including sweet potatoes, yellow aji chili sauce, and ceviche flavors.
While it wasn’t the sushi rolls I’m used to; the sushi rice was the perfect mix of sticky and fluffy. The aji sauce was the perfect balance of spicy and savory. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique sushi experience.

It’s tough to say which restaurant is the best in Laureles. Each restaurant has its own unique atmosphere and menu items.
If you are looking for a more traditional sushi experience, then I would recommend Sushi House. They don’t have any unusual menu items, but their sushi is delicious.
The restaurant is simple, with a limited amount of alcohol options. However, their tea is excellent and pairs well with sushi.
If you are looking for a cool atmosphere where you can get appetizers and drinks with friends, then Sushi Market is your place. In addition, their expansive menu means you are sure to find something you will love.
Finally, if you want a delicious meal without the hassle of a long wait, then Sakae Sushi is your best bet. Unfortunately, they don’t have sushi roll options that vary in terms of ingredients.
However, the sushi rice in the rolls is better than the other two. Not to mention, their menu has a nice variety of Peruvian dishes, which is a nice change of pace.
So, what’s the best sushi restaurant in Laureles?
It all comes down to what you’re looking for in a dining experience. In addition to the three mentioned in this article, there are others that I would like to try, such as Sushi World and Sushi Light.
Sushi World was under construction when I tried to visit. However, from what I’ve heard, their sushi is some of the best in Laureles. I would definitely recommend trying it out when they re-open.
In addition, Sushi Light looks like it has the best atmosphere, but the line was always out the door when I walked by. So, if you don’t mind waiting, then definitely give them a try.
Who knows? Maybe you’ll find these restaurants are even better than the ones that I listed!

Sushi Light Address: Tv. 39 #7462, Medellín, Laureles, Medellín, Antioquia
I know I am! And, after reading this article, I hope you are too. Laureles and the city of Medellin have some great Asian restaurants that are worth checking out. So, grab some friends and head to one of these places for an excellent meal.
