But, as someone who lived in Tamesis for three years, I can assure you it’s not just a tiny place with boring tourist attractions! Decided to get away from Medellin for the weekend? About 88 miles from Medellin, the town neighbors the famous Jerico and Fredonia. It houses over 16,000 people but still maintains its small-town ambiente de pueblo. And although it may seem a little far away, its landscapes and traditional paisa environment make this place a must-visit for those staying in Medellin! Like many other Antioquian towns, it stands out for its ecotourism attractions and coffee. However, the indigenous communities and their religious holidays make this a different place in a majoritarian catholic country. Some examples are: Cacao festival or Fiestas del Cacao Fiestas de la Antorcha Virgen del Carmen festival San Pablo festival Santa Ana festival San Antonio de Padua festival I recommend you stay for the weekend, or at least two nights, to properly enjoy the trip. Best Ways to Get To Tamesis From Medellin Whether you want to save some money or have a quiet trip without worries, there are options for all tastes. Another pro is you can take a nap during the trip! Just be careful not to miss the bus stop or get off early. Ask the assistant or driver to let you know when you arrive at your destination. The bus to Tamesis leaves from Medellin’s South Terminal. You can do this by taking metro route A and getting off at the Poblado station, but you’ll have to walk 20 minutes to get to the terminal. For this reason, if you carry a lot of luggage, it’s best to take a bus or taxi to get there. You can use the routes: 304 313 Two companies offer trips to Tamesis: Cooptratam and Transportes Tamesis. I always use Transportes Tamesis. The drivers are friendly, and if you sit close to them, they might tell you a few things about the surrounding small villages. Check the bus schedules with the company. I suggest you buy your tickets in advance at the Terminal. If you’re traveling with your pet, check with the company about the rules. Sometimes you’ll need a crate, sometimes just a bag in case your furry friend gets dizzy. It’s also the best option if you’re taking your pet. Overall, the best way to deeply know the Paisa towns of Colombia and enrich your trip with landscapes full of lush greenery. However, it’s also more expensive than taking a bus. Consider additional costs such as gas and two booth tolls you’ll find along the way. I recommend you use a GPS to avoid getting lost on the way, but you can also ask any locals: people tend to be friendly and willing to help. Farther away from big cities, Colombian highways may not be paved and quite bumpy, so drive carefully and patiently. Hiring a private driver, you just have to worry about being ready to be picked up from your Medellin hotel or Airbnb. From my experience, you can ask a taxi driver or uber if they’re up for the trip or know anyone who’d be. Spend Your Weekend in Tamesis If you don’t have plans for the weekend yet, I can assure you that going to Tamesis is an experience you’ll never forget.
