TLDR? San Felipe Picnic & Parilla is one of the best places in Medellin to throw a birthday party!
Is your birthday is coming up? Well, just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t throw a rocking birthday party.
Whether it’s a party for one, an event you’ll be sharing with new-found friends, or a party that you and your significant other will enjoy, there are tons of places to go in Medellin.
Here are some of my top picks for places to throw a birthday party in the city.
Located in Laureles, San Felipe Picnic & Parnilla is sort of like a glorified park. The place has picnic tables and chairs as well as bean bags, all of which are decorated with a classic red and white checkered tablecloth.
Despite the fact that it’s super casual and laid back, San Felip actually hosts events such as weddings, engagement celebrations, anniversaries, and birthday parties.
All you have to do is call ahead and let them know what type of party you’re having. They’ll take care of the decorations, and can also hook you up with live music if you want.
In terms of the food, they’ve got shareable appetizers and meals from the grill. Make sure to order the Sangria San Felipe to pair with your meal.
You can finish off the night with one of their milkshakes, or you can just settle for birthday cake. Either way, it’s going to be good.
Rustic lounge has a stunning space that’s full of glittering fairy lights and hanging plants. It’s a super classy place to throw a birthday party.
In terms of the decor, you can ask the restaurant what decorations they have. They’ll decorate your table for you so that when you arrive everything is ready to go!
Rustic has a location in El Poblado as well as another one over in Laureles. Regardless of where your Casacol rental is, you’ll be able to celebrate a rocking party here.
In terms of the food, they’ve got hamburgers and different cuts of steak. They’ve also got some great cocktails, which are perfect for celebrating your special day.
Who doesn’t love a tiki-theme? Tiki Bar is exactly what it sounds like—a tropical Tiki bar located in the southern part of the city in Envigado.
The bar has a fun, covered area with gorgeous palms and bright lights. Or, you can head out to the garden if you prefer an open-air vibe.
My favorite part of this restaurant is that they’ve actually got a little lake where you can go fishing. You’ll feel like you’re out in the countryside rather than in a neighborhood in Medellin!
This place offers different decorations for those who decide to book for a special events. The decorations actually are appropriate for birthdays, anniversaries, and even private picnics tucked away in cozy nooks.
If you want to keep the party going after your formal bash is over, you can. Every night there is a bonfire with music and a party atmosphere in the main hall after 11:00 at night.
Mystic Restaurante makes you feel like you’ve just stepped foot in a secret garden. There are private tables adorned with canopies and glittering fairy lights that make you feel like you’ve got the place to yourself.
The restaurant is located close to the Girardot Stadium in Laureles and has a zen garden with a fountain at the center.
If you book the place out for your party, they’ll include all the decorations. That can take some of the stress out of the party planning on your end!
In terms of the food you’ll be able to choose from grilled meats, seafood, vegetarian options, and many kinds of drinks, even cocktails.
Clandestino is a cool place in the Manila neighborhood. The building features six different themed spaces, which gives you a lot to choose from!
You can choose from a vintage lounge, lazy beach decor, a picnic setting, and even a private theater! There’s also an event hall which can be turned into a private nightclub.
Or, you can head upstairs and hangout at the rooftop bar.
This multifaceted place offers a menu with dishes curated by the chef, classic cocktails, and signature cocktails.
If you’re wanting a unique way to celebrate your birthday, Clandestino is definitely a nifty spot to check out. You’ll find great food and a ridiculously neat atmosphere.
Mahalo is a restaurant and country park located in Loma del Escobero, south of Medellín.
The place is famous for the sports and activities you can practice there, not just the food. For example, you can go roller skating, try your hand at paintball, play a game of pool, and more.
Although they don’t offer special birthday decorations, you can always bring your own. And, it’s still worth a visit thanks for the city views and many activities!
Personally I think this is a great place for a party because they’ve got tons of things to keep your guests entertained all night long.
And, the cocktails are cheap and taste great.
Going north of Medellin and driving one of the surrounding mountains for approximately 10 minutes, you’ll arrive at Waira. This is a restaurant-bar and picnic located in San Felix, a town renowned for paragliding activities.
At this restaurant, you can enjoy a wonderful view of Medellin and live music. All that’s paired with great food, of couse.
What I like about La Waira is that they usually make a huge bonfire for all the diners to enjoy. This is definitely a welcome treat considering it tends to be a bit colder up in the mountains.
They let you reserve the place for special celebrations. When you do, they’ll provide all the decorations.
This place is pet friendly, too, so your four-legged friends can celebrate your birthday with you!
Address: Medellín, Antioquia
With everything from sweet picnics on the lawn to vibrant bars and bonfires, there’s something for everyone in Medellin. Get ready to throw the best birthday party abroad possible!
