The Top 7 Places to Get French Food in Medellin

TLDR? Oh La La Bistro is the best place for French food in Medellin

Are you craving French food? Looking for the best French restaurants in Medellin? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Medellin is a melting pot when it comes to gastronomy, which means you can literally find any kind of food you like.

And, if it’s French food you’re after, there are some great choices out there. Here’s a quick list of the best spots to chow down on croissants and sip on champagne around the city.

1. Oh La La Bistrot

Oh La La Bistrot

Oh La La Bistro is an authentically French restaurant that makes you feel like you’re sitting in a corner café in Paris.

The menu is short, but full of tasty dishes. For instance, you can try everything from pan au chocolate with a coffee to a plate of Cordon Bleu washed down by a glass of French wine.

A few other recommendations include the Cured Psalm Tartines and the Creme Brulée. Both are super authentic and are the perfect items to nibble on for an afternoon snack.

The one thing you’ve got to know before visiting is that almost all of the appetizers are raw. If you’re okay with that (or if you like things raw) this won’t be an issue.

2. Ganso & Castor

Ganso & Castor

My personal favorite French restaurant in Medellin is Ganso & Castor. Although this spot is famous for brunch, an American tradition, the meals here are actually French!

Ganso & Castor features mostly brunch items, although they’re actually open for all-day dining.

I love ordering the eggs benedict, which is a classic brunch meal. Pair that with a Kir Royale and you’ve got a brunch made in heaven!

Although, if I’m in the mood for something heavier, I can recommend the Meuniere Salmon. It feels oh-so-fancy and is low enough in calories that I don’t feel bloated when I get up from the table.

Ganso & Castor actually has four locations around Medellin. Regardless of whether you’re staying in one of Casacol’s Poblado properties or you’re in another part of town, you’re bound to find a Ganso & Castor nearby.

3. El Rincón Frances

El Rincón Frances

El Rincón Frances has such a Spanish-sounding name for a restaurant that’s so authentically French. The Chef has years of experience working in France, which is what’s allowed him to cook up such authentic meals.

The menu features a few classic French favorites including:

  • Crepes
  • Gratin sandwiches
  • Flattened mushrooms
  • Shrimp cocktails
  • Salads

Everything on the menu is pretty health-conscious, so if you’re trying to stay fit on your visit to Medellin, I doubt you’ll have any trouble here.

4. La Cafetiere De Anita Restaurant

La Cafetiere De Anita Restaurant

La Cafetiere is based on a mixture of classic French cooking techniques and Colombian twists.

Take their prawns in tamarind sauce, for example. The flavors of the dish are distinctly Latino, but the preparation and presentation both scream France.

In terms of what to order, you’ll think me a bit strange here, but I recommend going for their charcuterie board. The cheeses are delicious, featuring brie and camembert which are hard to come by in Colombian supermarkets.

As for the main course, I’d say to go for the Boeuf Bourguignon, a traditional French stew, or opt for the Entrêcote Café de París, which is a hefty meat dish.

Make sure to order a glass of champagne. They’ve got a long wine menu, but the champagne’s are what really sparkle.

5. Bagatelle Medellin

Bagatelle Medellin

Bagatelle is technically a bakery, rather than a restaurant. But, if you love the idea of sitting by the Seine and sipping on sweet coffee with a pastry in hand, this is the place to go.

Bagatelle has a very long dessert menu, although I recommend the Bizcocho Opera Tartlet. This delicate little cake is the perfect blend of Colombian fruits and flavors paired with traditional French pastries.

They’ve also got sweet little pastries and cookies that work well as gifts. Wrap up a box and take it to your new neighbor at your Casacol Airbnb!

6. Chalet Gourmet

Chalet Gourmet

Chalet Gourmet, despite the name, is actually a pretty affordable place to dine out. At the same time, it’s got that fine dining feel that will leave you feeling as though you’re in a high-class zone!

Here, you’ll find plenty of dishes for you to choose from. All of them, of course, embody the flavor of France.

One thing to note about the menu here is that the dishes are relatively small. You could easily do what I did and order three plates to share between two people.

The standout items on the menu are actually their cocktails. They can make pretty much anything you ask for, or you can opt for one of their sangrias or other listed items.

7. Restaurante La Provincia

Restaurante La Provincia

Although La Provincia actually has a pretty mixed menu, they’ve got a few good French items on their list.

Plus, what’s great about this place is that it’s super romantic. That means that you can sit down for a first date at this restaurant in good faith.

One of the items on the menu that I particularly enjoy are the buñuelos stuffed with blue cheese. They’re a traditional Colombian dish, sure, but the blue cheese gives them that European twist.

In terms of the main course, go for the Chateaubriand bearnaise with either chipotle sauce or red wine sauce. Pair it with a glass of the Les Grains Syrah. Yum!
