San Francisco, Antioquia for Digital Nomads: The Best WiFi Spots

TLDR? San Francisco is a small town in Antioquia, but it’s still got some great cafés and restaurants for digital nomads!

San Francisco is a small town known for the many outdoor activities you can enjoy with friends and family, such as fishing, kayaking, rafting, rappelling, canyoning, hiking, and much more. It’s a wonderful place to push your limits and try something new.

But what about work? As many people know, the grind can feel like it never stops. What if you have to get some work done and need a good WiFi connection in the middle of nowhere? 

Don’t worry! I’ve done some research for you and found the best WiFi spots in San Francisco and Antioquia, so you can combine work and fun stress-free!

Where Is San Francisco, Antioquia?

San Francisco is a municipality of Colombia, located in the south east of the region Antioquia,  close to San Luis, Sonson and Cocorná. 

Located about 100 kilometers away from Medellin, the capital of Antioquia, this town is about 1250 meters above sea level, which is why the weather here is always perfect. In fact, Medellin is often called “the city of eternal spring.” 

How to Get to San Francisco from Medellin

The journey from Medellin to San Francisco will take between two to four hours, depending on your choice of transport. 

• By car: the easiest and fastest way to get to San Francisco from Medellin is by car. If you need to rent a car, don’t worry! There are a ton of car rentals in Medellin. 

• By motorbike: Looking for an adrenaline rush? Consider renting and driving a motorbike down to San Francisco! It’ll take the same amount of time as going by car, but you’ll get to enjoy the fresh breezes of Antioquia. 

• By bus: The Flota Granada bus route goes directly to San Francisco from the Terminal Norte of Medellin. Taking the bus is the cheapest way to there, but it’s also the longest. While it only costs around $6 to $10 dollars,  the trip can take around four hours, depending on the traffic. 

• By taxi: A taxi ride to San Francisco is the most private form of transportation, but it’s also the most expensive. The ride will take about two hours and cost around $30 or $40 dollars, though keep in the mind the price is subject to change. 

• By private transport: Shared private transport is available from the terminal in the form of a private car, mini bus or mini van. Splitting the ride between you and other travelers will keep the cost down, providing a cheaper alternative to a taxi. 

Is There WiFi in San Francisco, Antioquia?

While there are some spots equipped with WiFi in San Francisco, it’s good to remember that this is a small town in the mountains, and the signal will be much weaker than in a city like Medellin. 

Many of the campground and hotels in the area promote a disconnect from technology, and advise guests before they arrive that they won’t be able to connect to a signal there. Some places avoid WiFi entirely, choosing instead to focus on the silence and peace of mind offered by the natural world. 

What about data? In San Francisco and the surrounding area, the company Tigo may be able to provide some data to travelers. Moviestar may work as well in a handful of places, but the signal won’t be very powerful. 

Best Places to Get Some Work Done in San Francisco

Don’t worry about data, I’ve got you covered. I’ve found some great Wi-Fi equipped spots in San Francisco where you’ll be able to get some work done. 

A few are hotels, so you may need to purchase a room to access the WiFi. Before you pay, make sure to check in with the receptionist and see if you’re able to hang out in the lobby for a few hours or pay a small fee to access the WiFi. Paisas are always friendly and ready to help you out! 

Hotel San Francisco

The Hotel San Francisco is a small, basic hotel close to the town’s main church. 

It’s one of the most famous hotels in town, so if you get lost, ask some locals and they’ll be able to guide you there.  The rooms come with TV, a private bathroom, and, of course, WiFi! 

If you don’t want to stay there for the night, ask the receptionist if WiFi is available to non-guests.

Casa Eco Santo Domingo

The Casa Eco Santo Domingo is close to the Santo Domingo River in San Francisco. The hotel allows visitors to visit during the day for a discounted price, rather than paying for full price over night accommodations. 

The hotel includes a big garden, a terrace, a BBQ area, and access to the gorgeous river, along with free WiFi. 

Imagine working on the gorgeous terrace before treating yourself to your favorite cocktail. Sounds good, right?

Nearby Towns

If you’re just passing through the area and not staying the night, you might want to check out some of the nearby towns. 

Cocorná is a small village not too far away from San Francisco. Head over there, and you’ll find there are far more options for getting a good WiFi connection. 

Not only are there more hostels and hotels, but there are also some cafés there where you can camp out and get some work done. 

Cocorná is only about an hour away from the village, and it’s on the way back to Medellin. It’s the perfect place to swing by and work after enjoying a morning spent exploring the small towns around Medellín.

Disconnect in San Francisco, Antioquia

You can find WiFi almost everywhere these days, but when surrounded by the beauty of Antioquia, consider putting work to the side and immersing yourself fully in everything this gorgeous country has to offer.
