Girardota is no exception! This religious town in Antioquia is home to some beautiful churches and religious buildings worth visiting during your trip to the town.

Girardota is located about a half hour away from Medellin, and is known for being one of the most visited towns of Colombia’s Holy Week.
The town is often visited by tourists looking to learn about the area’s history and religious monuments.
Girardota also has other torusit attractions that include ecological walks and visits to crystal clear water sources.
Girardota is very close to Medellín, so you have two easy options to get there.
If you want to save some money and don’t mind changing transport, I recommend using the Metro and then taking a taxi.
First, you’ll need to go to the subway station closest to were you’re staying and take that to the Parque Berrio stop. After getting off at Parque Berrio, continue your journey to the Niquia Station. Once you get to the Niquia Station, you’ll be able to call a taxi to take you to Girardota.
You can also take a taxi from your hotel or Airbnb, but it’ll be a more expensive trip check the travel rates before making your decision.
A car ride through Antioquia is always a pleasure!
If you’d rather be in complete control of your journey, you can rent a car in Medellin. Keep in mind that you’ll need to be the $2 USD Niquia toll on your way to Girardota, so add that small cost into your budget.
You can also use a private service to hire a car with a driver if you’re a bit too nervous to drive down Colombia’s roads.
Including a religious tour of Girardota in your travel plans can help you learn more about Colombian culture and its people’s most popular beliefs.
I’ve put together a list of places I recommend you visit during your stay in Girardota!
Built from brick in a French style, the Catedral Nuestra Señora Del Rosario is located in Girardota’s main park.
Tourists, travelers and Colombians alike flock to the Cathedral to visit El Santuario del señor caído, a famous statue of Christ on his knees. The statue, which is over 220 years old, resides inside the church, and visitors will often ask it for special prayers or requests.
El Santuario del señor caído is usually apart of the Holy Week processions as one of the main religious attractions of the route.
Thousands of pilgrims attend the procession, with many walking a journey of over ten miles from Medellin to visit the statue.
Sunday Mass is usually the most important mass attended by believers. You can attend mass at the cathedral at the following times:

You’ll find the beautiful and simple parish of Parroquia la Santiisima Trinidad Del Llano a short ten minute walk from Girardota’s main park.
The church is small and cozy, though built in a more modern style of architecture than the town’s main cathedral, and is known for religious proceedings honoring the Virgen del Carmen.
You can also see the gorgeous mountains bordering Girardota from the small hill the parish resides on.
Weektime masses proceed during the week at different times, usually 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
During Sundays, the church usually has a wider variety of schedules, with masses meeting at:
The church also broadcasts their masses on Facebook on Sundays for worshippers unable to make it in person.
Address: Cra. 17, Girardota, Antioquia
The Religious Community of Carmelitas Contemplativos is located a ten minute drive away from Girardota’s main park, and is always willing to provide hospitality to those in need.
If you’re a Catholic, you’ll find this is the ideal place to connect with God during your stay in Colombia. You can book a five day retreat where you’ll engage on a guided religious journey.
If you’re traveling with friends or family or don’t intend to stay multiple days, you also have the option to book a one day group retreated, with lunch service included.
