TLDR? If you’re traveling with pets in Medellin, you can leave them at doggy daycare centers while you’re out and about.
Are you one of those people who walks with his four-legged friend everywhere?
If so, you might find that from time to time you’ve got to leave them in someone else’s care. After all, lugging your furbabies around Medellin can get a bit tiring!
In this guide, we’ll go over a couple of the best doggy daycare centers in Medellin. Plus, I’ve thrown in some pro tips on how to bring them to the City of Eternal Spring in the first place!
Before we get going talking about doggy daycare centers, let’s go over basic travel with pets to Medellin in the first place.
Here are some of the logistics you’ll need to sort out first.
If you decide to travel with your dog to Medellin, you should know that there are a couple of requirements for him to get into the country.
It’s sort of like how us humans need a visa!
Among the most important are the vaccination schemes. The idea here is that these can prevent the spread of harmful or foreign disease in Colombia.
To trael with your pooch, you’ll need the current vaccination certification listing out the name of each vaccine, lot number, application date, and effective date.
Here are some of the vaccines dogs need if they’re going to come to Medellin:
In addition to this, you must follow some considerations dictated by the Colombian Agricultural Institute or ICA.
For one thing, all rabies vaccines must be done at least 21 days before the date of travel. Additionally, you’ll need to know that the minimum age of the pet to enter Colombia is at least 15 weeks.
If your pet doesn’t have vaccines, you’ll have to bring a vet’s health certificate. You may also have to get an official health service certificate stating the vaccines (or reason for no vaccines) that your pet has.
Finally, depending on what vaccines your dog has, you may need to quarantine the animal upon entering the country.
Note: If you travel with a cat, it’ll need rabies and feline leukemia vaccines among others. Make sure to check the vaccine requirements as they’re different for each type of animal!
Many airlines carry pets or emotional support animals under certain conditions.
However, restrictions vary according to specific airlines. A few of the restrictions that can change include whether they travel in the cabin or in the hold, permitted size, and special rules for service animals.
Plus, remember that brachycephalic animals aren’t always allowed on planes. Be sure to check on these types of requirements before booking a flight to the City of Eternal Spring!
Finally, remember that airlines sometimes incur extra fees for bringing pets. Make sure to check your chosen airline’s webpage so that you don’t have any nasty surprises at the airport.
Another major thing to consider when traveling with furbabies to Medellin is where you’ll be staying. You’ll need a pet friendly hotel that won’t have any issues with you bringing your dog.
The good news is that there are a couple of these around Medellin, including:
My personal recommendation, however, would be to stay at The Landmark hotel. This is an industrial-chic hotel located in the quiet Manila neighborhood.
The building is family friendly and pet friendly, and even has pet kits with beds and bowls for your dog.
Another thing to think about when bringing a pet to Medellin is where you’ll pick up their supplies. After all, they’re going to need to eat too!
Let’s go over a couple of pet shops around the neighborhood where you can pick up the supplies you need.
Poblado is the biggest and most luxurious neighborhood in Medellin, so it’s no surprise that they’d have quite a few pet shops for you to go to.
One of the best pet shops you can check out is Kanu. Although there are several of these stores around the city, in El Poblado you can find them at:
Kanu has pet accessories, food, and toys for your pet.
If you don’t like Kanu, you can also find other pet shops in the many malls around Medellin, such as Petland or Patas Arriba.
For those visitors who are staying in the Laureles neighborhood instead of Poblado, there are quite a few options out there as well.

All these shops have food, grooming supplies, toys, and medicine for your fur baby.
Pro tip: Macarena offers veterinary care, grooming, and ultrasound services. So, if you need extra help with your pup, this might be the better place to go.
Another big part of traveling with your dog is making sure he gets out and about. Of course, this is a major factor regardless of the size, but especially for big dogs.
The good news is that there are tons of great places to go for a walk around Medellin.
Here are a couple of my favorites.
Crossing the Parque del Poblado, just a couple of blocks away, you’ll find La Presidenta. This is a park with a stream as well as plenty of open green space.
It’s a great place to go for a jog and get some exercise with your pup (or on your own, for that matter).

Also in El Poblado is Telemedellin Canal Parque, a great place to spend a pleasant afternoon with your dogg.
What’s cool about this place is that they actually have a dedicated dog park, called the perrodromo, which is a space just for dogs.
Besides that, there are also plenty of nature trails to check out. As a result, it’s a nice place to stretch your pooch’s legs.

A little further to the west of the city, you can find one of the seven mountains of Medellin where you can go to enjoy a good walk with your dog.
This place, called Cerro El Volador, is a nice hill and outdoor area to go hiking. It’s also got incredible views for you to take in!

If you leave the south heading north, you pass through Ciudad del Rio. This is where you’ll also find the Museum of Modern Art, its square, and surroundings.
This is a linear park that’s popular as a jogging spot. However, it’s also a great place to let your pup stretch his legs!

As much as we’d all like to have our dogs by our sides at all times, sometimes that’s just not practical.
So, if you absolutely have to leave your dog behind for a day, it pays to know what doggy daycare centers are A-okay.

The staff here don’t just care for your pup. They also teach him new tricks, help him socialize, and work on obedience.

Pelulandia is located between the Estadio and Suramericana sectors, and offers hotel days in a house. The place has rugs, toys, and other creature comforts that will keep your pooch happy.
The most important thing about this place is the patience and love that keepers give to the animals. Plus, there’s a ball pit just for dogs!
This place is located in Laureles, which makes it convenient for lots of young travelers who want to stay close to La 70, too!

We’ve heard about country clubs for humans… but for pets? Here’s one!
In this country club located in Envigado, you can leave your pet under the care of professionals in a big, bougie outdoor area.
In addition, the site has veterinarians and a hospitalization area, so you know your pup is protected in case of any mishaps.

Also in the south of the city, Club del Canino offers doggy daycare complete with tons of fun activities. A few of the things your pooch might get up to in your absence include:
Vets and trainers also work here, so they can help out with any medical or behavioral issues your dog might have.
Best of all, they are in charge of picking up and taking your doggy, so you won’t have to worry about managing transport on your own.

The Dogs Club is basically a 5-star hotel for your dog. This place is located in Girardota, at the north end of the city, but the staff takes care of the transportation!
Here, your dog will have a room with a bed and blanket, and will be able to enjoy guided recreation, swimming time, and socialization.
If you require additional hairdressing or vaccination services for your furry one, you can also purchase them at this club.

In the La Floresta neighborhood you can find this doggy daycare center. This is a bit more homey than some of the others on this list.
Here, dogs are treated as if they were staying at, well, a house. You can also treat your pup to puppy spa days.
It’s one of the more affordable options out there, so it’s a good pick for pet owners on a budget.

Whether for emotional support or not, if you love to travel with your pet, Medellin is a great place for you to visit.
Not only are there plenty of pet-friendly accommodations around the city, but there are also doggy daycare centers if you’re ever in a pinch!
