If you’re planning a trip to Jardin, Colombia, then you’ll need to know where to stay. There are a few different options for accommodation in Jardin, but some are definitely better than others.

During our stay in Jardin, we had the opportunity to meet the owner of Gulupa Ecolodge, Gustavo. He was kind enough to show us around the property and tell us about the different features of the lodge.

Gulupa Ecolodge is located just outside of town, so you can do an enjoyable day hike to town without worrying about carrying all your belongings with you.

Gulupa is a variety of passionfruit, and yes, you’ll see the beautiful vines all around the property.

There are a total of three rooms at Gulupa Ecolodge, one upstairs, one downstairs, and one private cabin. However, in the future, Gustavo plans to add more rooms for his guests.

Being an ecolodge, it’s an important part of their philosophy to be as sustainable as possible. By composting and recycling, the place maintains a low carbon footprint. You’ll also find that every bit of leftover materials is used in one way or another around the lodge.

In addition to having a low impact on the environment, the rooms are spacious, with high ceilings and large windows that let in natural light and offer stunning views of the surrounding hills.

Each room has a private bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet. The beds are comfortable, and there are plenty of blankets to keep you warm at night.

Arriving at Gulupa Ecolodge

After you arrive by moto-taxi, you will be greeted by Gustavo or one of the friendly staff members. They’ll help you with your belongings and show you to your room. If you arrive early, they’ll offer to store your luggage until check-in time.

Once you’re settled in, I’d recommend taking a walk around the property to take in the stunning views. There are plenty of places to hang out, including:

• Two patios
• Deck hammocks
• An upstairs deck with patio seating
• A hot tub

If you want something to do while you are waiting, then you’re in for a treat. Gulupa Ecolodge has some great activities that you can do on-site, too.

Gulupa Ecolodge Activities

One of the best things about Gulupa Ecolodge is that there is always something to do.

If you’re looking for an adrenaline-pumping activity, then Gulupa Ecolodge is the place for you. With plenty of activities to keep you busy, you will never be bored here.

Hiking

There are plenty of hiking trails around the lodge, ranging from easy to difficult. From the ecolodge you can witness Cascada Escalera or take a quick walk to Mirador Cristo Rey Jardín.

Ziplining

At Gulupa Ecolodge, you can also experience one of the most popular activities in Jardín – zip lining! The staff will help you get harnessed up and provide you with a safety briefing.

From there, you’ll be ziplining through the forest Canopy, getting an incredible birds-eye view of Jardin and the valley.

Hot Tub

When you’re done, take advantage of the hot tub on-site. This is the perfect way to relax your muscles after a day of hiking and zip-lining. Plus, the views from the hot tub are incredible.

Tree-Top Walking Bridges with Hammocks

After ziplining, you should take the ladder 65 ft up into the treetops. Once there will, you’ll cross two bridges that will lead you to a platform looking over Jardin.

Once there, the crew will set up hammocks for you where you will be suspended above the ground, surrounded by lush greenery.

This is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the incredible views.

The Rooms at Gulupa Ecolodge

As we mentioned, there are three rooms at Gulupa Ecolodge, each with its own unique features.

However, each room offers the following:

• Private bathroom with shower
• Queen-sized bed
• Deck with hammock
• Bonus deck hammock
• Strong Wifi

The hammocks description may be confusing, but there is a difference. Each deck has a regular hammock that guests can hang up and enjoy.

However, each deck has a large hammock built into the deck that multiple people can enjoy at once. In addition, there are deck hammocks in the upstairs common area.

Honestly, we couldn’t have loved the rooms more. If we could have stayed in our room forever, we would have.

The staff was also incredibly accommodating, always making sure we had everything we needed.

Honor System at Gulupa Ecolodge

One thing we loved at Gulupa Ecolodge is the trust they put in their guests. The lodge operates on an honor system where you mark down what you consume in drinks and alcohol.

We loved this because it made the stay feel like home. There’s a fridge in the common area that’s filled with drinks, including:

• Beer
• Wine
• Teas
• Sodas

In addition, they have some snacks such as chips that you can purchase.

This is one of the things that makes Gulupa Ecolodge so special. The staff really goes above and beyond to make you feel like part of the family.

Make Your Own Pizza Night

During your stay at Gulupa Ecolodge, you can participate in a make-your-own pizza night.

For a small fee, you could make your own pizza with fresh ingredients. You choose your ingredients, and the staff will provide you will an electric pizza stone.

You cook your pizza for five to eight minutes, and then it’s ready to eat. This was such a fun activity, and the pizzas were incredible.

Don’t worry; the staff will show you how to make your pizza before you start.

Complimentary Breakfast at Gulupa Ecolodge

So, before we arrived, Gustavo told us that they make the best breakfast in Jardín next to his pal Luis and his team at Macanas Cafe.

Gustavo wasn’t lying. The breakfast at Gulupa Ecolodge is incredible. You can expect a large spread each morning with some must-have Colombian coffee. Our meal included:

• Fruit bowl (with passionfruit, of course)
• Pancakes
• Toast with jam and butter
• Egg bake with fresh tortillas

If you’re wondering, it was all delicious and more than exceeded our expectations.
