No previous go-karting experience is needed to take part, only a need for speed. Below is everything you need to know to before your drive and where you can find tracks in the city.

What to Know About Go-Karts

Before we start talking about where to go go-karting, let’s talk about how they work.

Go-karts are four-wheel vehicles that come in all shapes and sizes. Similar to a car, they have brakes, tires, an engine, gas and brake pedals, and a steering wheel.

The main difference between cars and go-karts, other than their size (go-karts are small-scale vehicles), is that these little racing vehicles don’t have any of the outer luxuries of a car. There are no walls, roof, stereo, etc.

Additionally, go-karts ride low to the ground and accelerate faster than a car, which makes them ideal for racing.

The speed of your go-kart depends on the type of kart. Karts created for kids are limited to 9mph, whereas professional super karts can reach speeds of over 150mph

The fastest adult karts at indoor racing tracks will allow you to go is up to about 45mph. At the end of your go-karting experience, don’t forget to check the scoreboard to see how you measured up to the other racers.

How to Prepare

How to Prepare

For go-karting newbies, racing can seem a bit intimidating at first. Here are some ways you can prepare so that you feel ready to take on the track

What to Wear

Dress for success is always a great motto, and it is no exception here. For this activity make sure you wear comfortable clothes. Stretchy or loose-fitting pants and a t-shirt are a pretty safe bet, and leave your watches and jewelry at home.

An important note to remember is to wear close-toed shoes, preferably sneakers, or else the track won’t let you race. If you have long hair, tie it up or bring a hair tie with you. You’ll also be given a balaclava and a helmet onsite for safety.

Rules and Instructions

The best way to prepare above all is to keep your eyes and ears open. If you’re a beginner, it’s important that you listen to all the instructions from the race staff.

Just like learning to drive a car, there are several things you need to keep in mind to safely and successfully navigate your kart.

If you run into a problem on the track, the staff will be there to help you. However, it’s important that you understand the rules and directions before you hit the gas.

What to Expect in a Go-Karting Session

Go-Karting Session

No matter where you decide to go racing in Medellin, you can expect a similar experience at each track. On arrival, you’ll be asked to register some basic information about yourself into the computer, including your name, date of birth, and an ID number (you can use your passport number).

Next, the onsite staff will give you your racing gear, a balaclava, and a helmet in your size. While you’re getting geared up, they’ll ask if you have previous experience go-karting or if it’s your first time.

For first-timers, you will be given a brief safety talk and instructions on how to maneuver your kart. This part is very important, so make sure you pay attention.

Getting into the kart and buckled up is the last step before you begin. Before starting up the karts, the staff will get acquainted with the two pedals, ‘brake’ and ‘go’. Then it’s off to the races!
