TLDR? You can celebrate 4th of July in Medellin by having a cookout, going on a picnic, or checking out one of the American restaurants around town.
The 4th of July is right around the corner, and as an American, for me this is a time for getting together with friends and family.
When I first arrived in Colombia, I insisted upon throwing my own little 4th of July get-together at home. However, now that I know the city a bit better, I’ve come up with a couple of places to hang out this year instead.
So, if you’ll be in Medellin for the 4th of July and want a place to spend some time, we’ve got you covered. Here are a few of the places for a great 4th of July.
If you spend a bit of time in Medellin, you’ll quickly discover that there are some cool American-themed places to celebrate the fourth of July.
Here are a few places where you can have a rocking fourth of July party as well as some suggestions on what to do.
Sweet George Cafe is a modeled after your typical mom and pop diner in the US. It’s got all the classics, such as milkshakes, hot coffee, chicken and waffles, and fluffy pancakes.
The cafe is located in Laureles, which makes it perfect for visitors staying in the Factory Lofts or any of the other Airbnbs and apartments on that side of town.
If you love brunch, this might be the perfect way for you to celebrate your stars and stripes. Head over there for a traditional American meal with some friends!
On the other hand, if you live in the Poblado part of town, you can check out Sweet Georgia’s Breakfast Sports Bar & Grill.
It’s owned by the same individuals, but has more of a party vibe. If you’re interested in watching a sports game, this might be a place for that type of vibe instead.
Of course, they’ve still got brunch on the menu. But, it’s definitely got more of a sports bar vibe.

I’ve already talked about a mom and pop style diner. But, if you love the idea of retro meals at vinyl diner booths with neon lights around your head, Classic Diner is the place to go.
If you’ve ever been to a Silver Diner in the US, you’ll know pretty much exactly what to expect.
This place has got everything from the chekecered floors to the Jukebox, making it a pretty fun place for us Americans to check out.
Classic Diner actually occasionally has live music, too. That’s why it’s such a great place to grab a bite to eat with friends on the 4th of July!
Also, it is noteworthy that they have the some of best burgers in the city, earning that achievement in 2018 and 2019 through the “Burger Master” contest. That’s a competition that chooses the best burger from dozens of Paisa restaurants, so you know it’s good.

The US has a ton of different musical styles, but one that will always make me think of the city is Hip Hop. If you enjoy this type of music, then Brooklyn Swag & Burgers might just be the place for you to check out.
This restaurant has all the typical American classics you want on the US’s birthday. They have fries, hot dogs, hamburgers, and beer for you to sip on.
The packaging and presentation of their meals is pretty cool, too. Everything comes in a paper packaging that reminds me of In N’ Out Burger from my past life in LA.
Are you feeling the beat and want to try something off the wall? Go celebrate the US’s iindependence with a “Sugar Rush” burger, which replaces the bread with a glazed doughnut!
Brooklyn Swag & Burgers is convenient, too. It’s located in the heart of Provenza, meaning it’s right where all the action is happening in Poblado.
This is definitely a place to bring a few friends for a fun meal and celebration!

Fourth of July celebrations are about spending time with friends or family, which is why having a picnic is always a great idea.
Medellin has several parks and spaces surrounded by nature that are ideal for holding picnic-type celebrations without spending a lot of money. However, there’s none quite like El Castillo y Jardines!
These guys actually have their own picnic program that you can take advantage of so that you don’t even have to make the food yourself.
Most of their picnics are for two to four people, but you can always order additional sandwiches and drinks.
All the picnic packages come with at least a sandwich, fruit, a dessert, and drinks while some include alcoholic beverages as well.
You’ll get treated to a picnic out on the lawn at El Castillo, making for a fun way to celebrate the fourth of July as if you were back home! It’s a nice, classy alternative to the big BBQs and cookouts we’re used to back home.

So, what will it be? An all-American brunch at Sweet Georgia or a couple of beers at Brooklyn Swag & Burger?
No matter what it is you decide, I’m here to wish you a happy 4th of July!
