TLDR? Learn how to book an in-house massage with one of the city’s best home massage delivery services.
There’s nothing like getting a massage to soothe sore muscles and help you relax. And, with one of the many at-home massages offered in Medellín, getting a good massage is easier than ever!
No preparation is needed on your part, your masseuse will bring a portable table and any other accessories needed, all you need to do is lay back and relax.
For anyone visiting or living in Medellin, I’ve created a list of my recommendations for the best at-home massage services in the city.
Types of Massages
Before you book with your masseuse, it’s helpful to know what type of massage best fits your needs. While most people are familiar with the standard relaxation massage, there are several other types with their own unique benefits.
Below are some of the most common types of massages offered in the city.
Hot Stone Massage
For this technique, heated stones are placed on the body during the massage. The heat from the stones eases muscle tension and alleviates pain. Hot stone massages are most recommended for people who suffer from these issues or those who just want to relax.
As you might have guessed from the name, wood therapy massages incorporate the use of various sized wooded tools. The benefits of wood therapy are working out muscle spasms, increasing circulation, and reducing cellulite.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
A gentler massage, lymphatic drainage was created to help promote lymph fluid circulation through the body. Lymph fluid is made of proteins, toxins, cell debris, and bacteria, and these massages can help release these toxins.
Colombia is renowned for its plastic surgery, so it makes sense that post-operative massages are among the most popular types. This service reduces healing time, decreases pain, and improves circulation after surgery.
Relaxation or Swedish massage
The most common of all the massage techniques, a Swedish massage is a simple full-body massage. Perfect for people holding tension in their body, massage newbies, or anyone who wants to relax – you can’t go wrong with this traditional rub-down.
Owner of Essence Spa, Isabelle, and her sister run a small but efficient massage service. The pair offer hot stone, bamboo therapy, and relaxation massages.
For a more deluxe option, you can opt for their ‘Ruby’ or ‘Perla’ massage, which includes a hydrating facial. Essence is extremely easy to book with, and Isabelle was very responsive.
I went with their gema massage, their version of a relaxation massage, and was extremely pleased with their service. My masseuse ensured that I was comfortable, creating a peaceful environment.
If you are looking for a wide variety of massage options, Tu Tienda is a great choice. They offer reduction, wood therapy, relaxation, chocolate therapy, mud therapy, fruit therapy, couples, and post-operative massages, in addition to their other spa services.
It’s quick and easy to book your session through WhatsApp, and they’re very accommodating.
For my Tu Tienda experience, I went with their hot stone massage, which included a facial and body scrub. It was the peak of relaxation, and I highly recommend this option.
It is important to know how to prepare your body for your message and what to do afterward to get the full benefits of the experience. Here are some of the main tips to keep in mind:
Don’t eat heavy meals before or after your massage.
Drink lots of water before and after your massage.
Shower before your massage to loosen up your muscles.
Avoid drinking alcohol or sugary and carbonated beverages after your massage to enhance the toxin-releasing benefits.
Get a good night’s sleep to encourage muscle recovery
Make sure you let your masseuse know of any medical conditions or injuries beforehand.
