No time to read? Cauca Viejo is a private village located just two hours outside of Medellin.

There are some pretty cool places around Medellin if you know where to look for them. One of those hidden gems is Cauca Viejo.

Now, anyone who knows a bit of Colombian geography is probably thinking “but wait! Isn’t Cauca to the south of the country?”

The answer is that the department Cauca is, but the small town called Cauca Viejo is not.

This exclusive town is a place that you can only access if you live there or if you’ve gone for a visit. So, are you ready to live the VIP lifestyle for a day? Let’s take a look at what to know!

Where to Find Cauca Viejo

Where to Find Cauca Viejo

This sweet little spot is located just a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Medellin. That makes it far enough away that you can escape the city for a weekend, but close enough that you don’t have to spend hours on the road.

You’ll find this quaint town nestled in the southeastern corner of Antioquia. In fact, if you’ve taken the time to go out to Jerico, you’ve probably got a pretty good idea of where this is.

Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by beautiful, colonial Spanish gates. There, you’ll have to show either proof of residence or proof of a hotel stay to get in.

It can feel a bit surreal but is definitely a great way to feel like a VIP. After all, who doesn’t want to feel like they’re stepping into their very own Kardashian lifestyle for a weekend?

Now, although the town is a little out of the ways, getting around the area couldn’t be easier. There are several luxury transport services that will take you straight from Medellin to your hotel!

Where to Stay

Where to Stay

Once you’re through the gates you’ll be welcomed into a small pueblo that’s got all the charm you’re looking for.

This quaint country town features just 150 houses, 30 of which you can rent out for a spectacular stay.

The houses are nestled into the corners of cobblestoned streets and are all beautifully adorned with colorful painted accents and fresh flowers. Plus, the hotel is close to Rio Cauca, making it a spot that’s rich in plants and greenery.

Where to Eat

Where to Eat

There are a couple of dining options that you can check out while in Cauca Viejo.

Firstly, there’s the picnic experience. This private dining experience is complete with bubbly champagne and delectable charcuteries. You’ll get a chance to hike out to a romantic spot on the hills surrounding the village to look at the views while you eat a romantic meal with your sweetheart.

If you’d rather go for something a little less rustic, you can try out the restaurant at the main hotel in town. This place features gorgeous cocktails and a mix of pasta, meats, and salads.

And, if you’re just wanting to try something truly Colombian, go for the parche en la quebrada. This traditional dining experience features Colombian food served up in banana leaves while you bathe in the Rio Cauca.

It’s definitely one of the more traditional experiences you’ll get to try while traveling to Medellin!
