The Best Teahouses and Tea Markets in Medellin

TLDR? One of the best tea shops in Medellín is Tea Market.

Colombia is known for producing some of the best coffee in the world, but what about tea?

Fortunately, tea culture has also had an influence on coffee-loving Colombia, and the country is home to tea crops as well as some tea houses where visitors can spend the afternoon or purchase some tea to prepare at home.

Read ahead to learn about some of the best places in Medellín to drink a delicious cup of tea.

A Bit of Tea History

Tea History

Have you ever wondered where that delicious drink that relaxes you at any time of the day comes from?

Although its specific origin is unknown, it is known that part of its beginnings were chewed leaves in China and India for medicinal purposes.

However, it was China that made tea its national drink between 600 and 900 AD, after this drink became popular throughout the nation. It was during this period that the first and most famous work on tea was written, with detailed descriptions of use, preparation, and benefits.

It is now popular all over the world, and has become a staple in other nations such as Argentina and England.

This famous drink also has its special day on the calendar. You can celebrate International Tea Day every May 21st.

This type of tea is a mixture between green tea and black tea, this mixture is known to improve lung health, the best tea for the health of your lungs.

Other important benefits are the control of blood sugar in addition to improving brain and heart function.

Special Tea Recipes

Drinking the same thing every day can be boring, luckily tea allows for a wide variety of unique and fun preparations. Here are some options:

  • Cold green tea: A simple preparation that will make a big difference. You just need water, tea (powder or loose leaves), a few ice cubes and you’re good to go. Shake it and wait fifteen minutes. You can also let it sit in the refrigerator for a day and it will retain freshness.
  • Green tea cappuccino with white chocolate: You just need to start by melting the chocolate, with a quarter cup of milk and tea. Then take your favorite cup and add the chocolate and milk. If you have some Matcha, sprinkle it on top and you’re good to go.
  • Tea with cherry and lemon: Place a pot of water on the stove and when it boils, turn off the heat and add the tea and dehydrated cherry, then serve it with a little almond milk and sweetened with maple honey. Add a slice of lemon for a citrus touch.
  • Infusion of anise with red wine: In a bowl bring to a boil 120 ml of red wine, two stars of anise, a cinnamon stick, and sugar to taste. When boiling, add your coffee and you’re done. Another good drink made from tea.
  • Coconut milk and green tea popsicles: If you want more than just a drink, make a dessert. Heat vegetable milk and blend with Matcha and sugar. Prepare your molds, pour the mixture, place a stick, put in the freezer and you’re done.
