Best Places To Buy Camera Supplies In Medellin

TLDR? Buying a camera in Medellin can be expensive, but there are still some great places to pick up what you need.

If you’re on the go, traveling in a fantastic foreign land, chances are you’re going to want to be taking lots of pictures of whatever you’re experiencing. Nowadays we’re all carrying little supercomputers in our pockets. So, great pictures are typically just a button push away on your phone.

But if you’re serious about photography, then you probably have a camera that’s an extra step up in terms of quality and sophistication, whether that’s digital or analog.

If you’re traveling with a proper camera, then it’s a good idea to keep apprised of where the shops are at where you can resupply for all of the accessories that you need to take great photos.

Here are a few places in Medellin that I found where you can do just that!

A Note on The Availability of Equipment

Note on The Availability of Equipment

Like many things that need to be exported from distant places to South America, sometimes the availability of equipment can be a bit spotty in Medellin depending on what you’re looking for.

There usually will be a spot in town that will have what you need, but the process of acquiring a specific lens or type of film might turn into a bit of a hunt.

For example, when I was looking for some film for my Polaroid camera, I ended up going to a few different stores to find what I was looking for.

Of course, you can always call ahead if you feel confident in your Spanish enough to find out if somewhere has what you’re seeking ahead of time!

Another thing to take note of is that like outdoor equipment, a lot of the stuff that’s imported is going to be on par with a place like the United States in terms of cost since it’s quite expensive to get things to places that are a bit more remote.

Nikon Store

Nikon Store

Like most of the entries on this list, Nikon Store has a somewhat modest selection, but it’s comprehensive enough that you can most likely find what you’re looking for.

Many of the stores in Medellin, and Latin America in general, have deals and partnerships with certain brands, which means that the stores will mostly carry equipment from that brand.

In the case of the Nikon Store, the store has a partnership with the camera company Nikon, as if that wasn’t obvious enough from the name. That means it’s the perfect place to go if you’re specifically looking for Nikon equipment, which is a fairly popular brand.

Nikon Store Medellin lies on the southern end of the Poblado area, which means that it’s fairly accessible from both the metro and driving avenues.

Tienda Digital Photografik

Tienda Digital Photografik

Another Poblado pick, Tienda Digital Photografik is very centrally located in that neighborhood, lying quite close to the rest of the action in the area.

Tienda Digital Photografik primarily carries equipment from the brand Sony and Canon. That means that there’s a pretty wide net cast in terms of the things available to you.

The shop has a big selection of digital photography staples. So, chances are you can find enough stuff to set up at least a semi-professional photo-shoot without too much effort.

Tienda Digital Photografik also carries most of the equipment that has become a mainstay nowadays in terms of accessories to hook up to your smartphone, including tripods and front lighting and things like that.

La Bodega de Las Camaras

La Bodega de Las Camaras

La Bodega de Las Cameras is a neat little store that lies in the up-and-coming industrials section of the city, which is where a bunch of former and current industrial warehouses are being turned into cool restaurants and other kinds of stores.

This is also where the must-go MAMM museum is located, so that’s something to keep in mind if you head over here for a trip.

La Bodega de Las Cameras has perhaps the widest selection of equipment available that I’ve yet found in Medellin, with its selection including gear from Canon, Sony, Panasonic, and Nikon.

This would overall make it my first choice for someone looking to grab some stuff for digital photography, as the store has a killer selection of all kinds of gear that should fit most needs depending on what kind of Camera you buy.

La Bodega de Las Camaras also comes with a one-year warranty for anything you buy at the store, which is something that you don’t always find in Medellin or Latin America in general.

The prices at La Bodega de Las Camaras are basically in line with the other listings on this post, as well as what you might find in the United States or a comparably expensive place.

Another edge that La Bodega de Las Camaras has is that its website allows for online shopping, which means you can set up purchases for pickup later, or have things shipped to where you live quite easily.

Fotolandia

Fotolandia

I’m including Fotolandia because they have a small array of analog film cameras for sale, as well as the accompanying film that goes with the cameras themselves.

I found finding certain kinds of film to be a bit difficult in Medellin, so it’s good for the analog hobbyist to know where those kinds of things can be found.

Fotolandia is in a very lively, interesting part of town that’s filled to the brim with attractions, shopping, and people-watching. This part of the city is called La Candelaria.

Hopefully, this list serves as a decent starting point to get you to the right place to find the best accessories for your gadget.
