TLDR? Hiking through the Mirador Cerro El Picacho Ecopark is one of the best things to do in the commune 12 de Octubre.

If you’re in Medellín long enough, you might want to get to know other parts of the city, not only its center.

With 14 neighborhoods, 12 de Octubre is one of the smallest communes in Medellín. It’s the sixth of the 16 communes in Paisa city.

El Picacho is one of its most popular neighborhoods, where you’ll find several tourist attractions.

Like any commune in Medellín, October 12 also has different bus routes that connect it with the entire city.

However, its main attraction is the metrocable stations! It currently has two stations, the El Progreso station and the 12 de Octubre station.

In 12 de Octubre, you can see Medellin from above! Here’s what else you can do in this area.

From natural attractions to architectonic ones, here’s a small list of things to do in this commune.

Ecoparque Mirador Cerro El Picacho

Mirador Cerro El Picacho is a perfect viewpoint of the city with a sculpture of Christ on its top. I suggest you go there at sunset: that way, you can see how things look in the light of day and enjoy nightfall.

Sometimes the view is blurred due to the fog, so I recommend you bring a coat.

You’ll find illumination along the path, so going down at night isn’t a problem. It’s also a very visited place.

If you intend to do a little exercise, you should go in the morning and enjoy the green areas as you go uphill.
