The Best Campgrounds in San Francisco, Antioquia

The Best Campgrounds in San Francisco, Antioquia

TLDR? From sleeping in a tent to staying in beautiful cabins, any of these campgrounds in San Francisco will be an unforgettable experience.

San Francisco is a small town between high mountains that are part of the beautiful landscapes in Antioquia. Around it, tons of waterfalls flow into the crystal clear water and become a beautiful river.

If you’re looking to go into the wild or unwind by the river with your family and friends, San Francisco’s the place to go. It’s the perfect place to go camping or glamping for a night or weekend.

To make it easier for you to plan this trip, here’s a list of the best campgrounds in town!

La Base Del Rio Santo Domingo

La Base Del Rio Santo Domingo

This campsite is close to the Santo Domingo River, the perfect place to disconnect from stress and reconnect with nature!

You can bring your tent with a mat or rent one on the spot. The prices are affordable, and you’ll get a special discount for a package including the entrance, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the stay!

If you’re looking for the atmosphere of camping but with the comfort of a cozy room, you should also check their private or family rooms. These are located in a lodge and are a good choice if you don’t quite want to sleep under the stars.

The camping site has a restaurant for those who don’t want to cook or a barbecue area with a stone grill for those who do. Colombians love to bring big cooking pots to slow cook Sancocho, a typical dish to eat with the family near the river.

If you like to fish, you’ll also be able to practice this hobby here! Bring your fishing rod and catch some big freshwater fish.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t organize your things for the trip, but it is nice to know that La Base Del Rio has a little shop with all the necessary items you might have forgotten.

Cabañas El Gual

Cabañas El Gual

Cabañas El Gual is about 30 minutes away from San Francisco. It’s also close to the Santo Domingo River and a perfect place to forget about the world and disconnect—there’s no wifi signal or mobile data here!

You can stay in the camping area, bringing your tent and sleep mat, or you can book a room or a cabin, depending on the number of people in your group.

You can enjoy fishing in the river and cooking what you catch in the barbecue area. You’ll need kitchen utensils since the campground only provides firewood.

There’s also a restaurant service if you don’t feel like cooking.

You can also visit the place during the day, without renting accommodations. A special package called “Dia de Sol” allows you to spend the whole day by the river at a low cost.

Aguas de Las Montañas

Aguas de Las Montañas

You’ll fall in love with this campground’s architecture! It’s full of little bamboo houses with a beautiful view of the Santo Domingo River.

You can choose to stay in a private cabin or a family one that has space for up to 16 people.

If you came for the adventure of sleeping in a tent under the bright sky of San Francisco, you won’t be disappointed. You can bring your tent and pay only for the site, or rent one there.

This campsite also has a Dia Del Sol, much like Cabañas El Gual, that will allow you to enjoy the river, the swimming pool, and the common area for a small price. Yes, I said swimming pool! Make sure you don’t miss the slide made out of the bark of a tree!

You’ll also find a restaurant and a grill area. If you don’t want to cook during your stay, save money by buying a package that includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

If you like hiking you should check the Cascada del Amor, a waterfall with unbelievably blue water. And, for the little ones, there’s also a little farm with pigs and horses.

Cabañas El Piñal

This campground is just 10 minutes by car from San Francisco. It’s a brand new place, with a view of the mountains of Antioquia that’s unbelievable.

El Piñal offers trekking tours of the many waterfalls around San Francisco. Discover the Santo Domingo river, the Melcocho river, the Cascada del Amor, and the town La Vega.

Get a private room or a nice wood cabin with a stunning mountain view! Or, if you want to feel the night’s breeze, bring your tent or check the availability of their platform rentals.

The campsite offers traditional food. There’s also an area to grill your favorite meat.

Cabañas El Pinãl derives its name from a plantation of piña, or pineapple, nearby. Did you know they grow up in the middle of a little tree? It’s the cutest thing!
